Eco Villages

  • Ecovillages are intentional communities whose goal is to become more socially, economically and ecologically sustainable.

  • Most range from a population of 50 to 150 individuals, although some are smaller, and larger ecovillages of up to 2,000 individuals exist as networks of smaller subcommunities.

Studio GAIA

  • Studio GAIA expanded, Founder Ilan Waisbrod developed the firm’s unique philosophy an approach that focuses on creating harmony between interior and exterior architectural forms while eschewing the purely ornamental. To insure the clarity of their vision, Waisbrod designed nearly all of the furniture for their projects. Inspirations ranged from Le Corbusier and Mies van der Rohe to art installations and natural forms.

  • Mirroring the firm’s diverse creative output, Waisbrod assembled a creative team hailing from nine countries as Studio GAIA grew: Israel, India, Hong Kong, Korea, Turkey, Brazil, Mexico, Japan and Dominica. Titles were spurned to encourage a collaborative atmosphere and free flow of ideas. Linking Studio GAIA’s innovative composition was a unique brand of imaginative, Zen-infused minimalism.

SITE

  • SITE is a New York City based, multi-disciplinary architecture and environmental arts organization, chartered in 1970 During the early years, SITE was philosophically motivated by the societal and political revolutions of the late 1960's, as well as a questioning of the stylistic dominance of Modernist, Cubist, and Constructivist influences in architecture.

  • In response to this critical climate, the studio advocated a total fusion of the arts - challenging those conventions that have traditionally separated visual art, buildings and landscape. Alternatively, SITE proposed an aesthetic approach where it would become difficult to determine where one art form begins and the other ends.

  • The group's work today is not about architecture as an object sitting in the environment; but rather, it is more about integrating structure and context as a total fusion of elements, which can then be interpreted as the environment.

Studio GAIA was founded by Ilan Waisbrod, who developed the firm's unique philosophy of architecture. Today the company's creative team includes designers from six countries. Studio GAIA is based in New York City.
